This bear probably just came out of hibernation after denning high in the mountain. Like all grizzly bears, this one headed to the lowlands to find new spring greens in the valley and along avalanche chutes. They need the greenery to start replenishing their depleted fat preserves that got them throug the long winter months. The bear's shaggy coat of fur will also disappear as warmer weather occurs, leaving the bear with a shiny, new coat of shorter, darker hair.
